The news that Kyrie Irving had been granted his wish and finally been traded out of Cleveland did not come as a surprise but what did have some shock value was who he was traded for.
Very few people would have guessed that Celtics’ Danny Ainge was willing to part with his biggest star, Isaiah Thomas, a solid small forward in Jae Crowder, and a promising young talent like Ante Žižić. Not to mention, Ainge threw in one of his precious draft picks – the Nets’s first-rounder next season that belonged to the Celtics.
"Isaiah embodied what it meant to be a Celtic. He captured fans’ hearts not only with his spirit, but his personality.” – Danny Ainge. pic.twitter.com/Xz85keUYHq

Twitter was reeling, every sports personality on TV and radio had an immediate take on the trade, and even players themselves seemed to be in disbelief that a deal of this magnitude went down.
Even the “NBA 2K18” Twitter account had some fun with it.

For the most part, it was civil – aside from a few comedians who had their JR Smith memes.

And at times, the tweets hit you in the feels with their heartfelt well-wishes. Did you see LeBron’s tweet?

Classy statement from a classy professional. You don’t have to like LeBron, but how can you not respect the guy?
