Even if you’ve never watched soccer a day in your life – not even one second of the World Cup, which is the largest sports tournament in the world outside of the Olympics – you’ve probably played EA Sports’ FIFA franchise.
No? Okay, well you’ve at least heard of it.
For the 18th installment in the franchise, EA Sports is combining new school with old school players even the most casual or non-soccer fan would know.
The highly anticipated release is scheduled for September 29th, with Cristiano Ronaldo on the cover.
But it’s what’s inside the game that has everyone abuzz.
Instead of the popular “legends” players, EA has decided to go a different route for FIFA 18 and will feature “Icons” which according to EA Sports FIFA, will all have three versions that “represent the progress they made during their respective careers.”
The Icons were revealed in a slow trickle on the video game juggernaut’s social media pages and culminated with the final player being released in a detailed live stream event held on August 1st.
Here are the Icon players featured as part of FIFA 18’s Ultimate Team:
The retired Brazilian striker, who was named the FIFA World Player of the Year three times and was a two-time Ballon d’Or recipient, Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima, who is commonly known as Ronaldo or “O Fenômeno” (The Phenomenon), is widely considered as one of the greatest soccer players of all time.
