Four years ago, Jimmy Kimmel introduced the world to what would morph into the phenomenon known as “Mean Tweets.”
Of course, people tweeting mean things has been around since the advent of Twitter, but we’re talking about the incredibly popular segment on Jimmy Kimmel LIVE! where famous people read – you guessed it – mean tweets sent to them or about them on the social media platform.
For some reason, when some people sign up for Twitter, they feel the need to direct disparaging remarks at actors, singers, athletes, politicians, reality stars, etc. Don’t get us wrong, the majority of people send out 140 characters of positivity and encouragement, but as Kimmel himself said, “Where’s the fun in that?”
Over the years, Kimmel has featured celebrities, country musicians, NFL players, and even the President of the United States.
One of the most popular versions of the segment is when NBA players read mean tweets.
And since the 2015-16 NBA season is over (Cleveland has its first championship in over 50 years!) and the upcoming campaign doesn’t start until late October, we figured we’d give everyone who’s waiting for the new-look league to begin a chance to look back at all four of the mean-spirited, yet hilarious “Mean Tweets” featuring their favorite hoops stars.
