The 2017-18 NBA season tipped off last night, but it didn’t end the way the Celtics had hoped.
Not because they lost on a last-second missed three from Kyrie Irving, but because their other major addition, Gordon Hayward, is likely lost for the season.

Five minutes, 15 seconds into his Celtics debut, Hayward was going for an alley-oop pass at the basket when he landing incredibly awkward and hard on the court.
Jaylen Brown finished the play as Hayward laid on the court writhing in pain. The whistle was blown, Cavs center Kevin Love, who was on the bench, turned a 180 away from the court and faced the stands, players put their hands on their head, while fans covered their agape mouths.
Warning: The following tweet shows Hayward’s injury and the aftermath is gruesome. Do not press play if you are sensitive to graphic material!

Immediately, LeBron James swarmed Hayward as he was being tended to by medical staff and it was reported James even followed Hayward’s stretcher into the tunnel.

Well-wishes began pouring in on Twitter and his former team, the Jazz, whom he left this summer via free agency after spending his first seven years in Salt Lake City showed the utmost class toward Gordon and his wife after the injury.
