The contract extension will keep Embiid in Philly until 2022-23 and the Sixers’ brass us feeling pretty good about the massive deal.
“Since drafting Joel third overall in 2014, he has solidified himself as a pillar in this franchise and to this city,” Josh Harris, the 76ers Managing General Partner said. “We have all enjoyed watching the hard work he puts into his game and the commitment he has for our organization. We are excited to further build our foundation around his unique talent and leadership skills, and we look forward to the continued growth of Joel and our team.”
Embiid, who moved to the U.S. at age 16 from Cameroon, was understandably thrilled over the extension.

For the last decade, the Sixers have struggled to find an identity, but with Embiid leading the charge, they are full of not only a talented roster but a group of fun young players.
Memphis Grizzlies forward Chandler Parsons shared a screenshot of his FaceTime conversation with Embiid on his IG Story and it’s about as classic Joel Embiid as you can get.

Now that Embiid has cemented himself in Philadelphia for a while and has established himself as one of the most naturally talented players in the NBA, all eyes will be on him this year to stay healthy and help the Sixers reach their projected potential.
As great as Embiid has looked during preseason practice, he’s giving fans even more reason to trust the process.
