New Orleans point guard Jrue Holiday missed the entire preseason and first 12 games of the Pelicans 2016-17 campaign for a reason bigger than basketball, money, or fame. He stepped away from the game for love of his family.
Almost four years ago, Holiday and his longtime girlfriend, women’s national soccer star Lauren Cheney said “For better or worse, in sickness and in health” in front of friends and family in a Malibu ceremony.
It was the “in sickness” part that had Holiday take a leave of absence from his team.
Jrue’s Wife And Daughter Are His World
While Lauren was pregnant with the couple’s first child, she found out something was terribly wrong; not with the baby, with her.
Lauren has been diagnosed with a brain tumor and had to wait until after the baby was born before doctors could perform the surgery to remove the benign tumor.
The Holidays Tweeted Out Appreciation For The Support:
We are firm believers that people need people. So thank you for your thoughts and prayers as we navigate a difficult time.

There is nothing in life my wife can't conquer with Jesus Christ in her corner. Thank you all so much for your support! God bless!

Lauren is a two-time Olympic gold medalist for the U.S. Women’s National Soccer team and scored the third goal in the USWNT’s win over Japan in the 2015 FIFA World Cup Final. After the tournament, the forward/midfielder retired from her sport so she could start a family with Jrue.
The Holidays met in 2008 while both attended UCLA and haven’t looked back since.
