New York is off to one of its better starts in recent memory; meaning, they aren’t sitting in the East basement.
Porzingis is playing exceptionally well and has taken the reigns as the leader of the squad. The fact he is playing at such a high level isn’t too shocking, however; this is the man who Kevin Durant dubbed “The Unicorn” for his outstanding ability for a man of his stature.
“He’s like a skilled player,” Durant said in 2016. “He can shoot. He can make the right plays. He can defend. He’s a 7-footer that can shoot all the way out to the 3-point line. That’s rare. And block shots, that’s like a unicorn.”
But Porzingis revealed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon he had no idea what the MVP was talking about at first.
“At first I was a little confused,” Porzingis said. “It’s like, what is this, a horse with a ponytail? Like, what? What does it mean? But then they kind of explained it to me, what he tried to say is that I was a unique player. It was nice to hear him say good things about me.”
