James isn’t just Nike, although sometimes it’s hard to separate the two; he has several business ventures that are all profitable.

Together with childhood friend Maverick Carter, James started LeBron, Inc. and has forged partnerships on the foundation that he will receive equity in the companies he works with.

Pretty savvy, huh?

It’s one of the reasons Warren Buffet, who James has a business relationship with, said LeBron is “plenty smart about financial matters,” and “I was impressed with him right from the moment I met him.”

His latest move is further evidence of his business acumen.

Last month, James filed a request with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office to trademark the phrase “Nothing is given. Everything is earned.”

According to ESPN:

The filings are connected to James’ I Promise School, a partnership between James and Akron public schools to build an elementary school beginning in the fall of 2018.

Aside from the intended purpose of using the phrase surrounding the school, the filing also seeks ownership of the phrase on T-shirts, sweatshirts and caps.

The organization of record for the filing is LBJ Trademarks, which also owns the phrase “Just A Kid From Akron.”
