James had mentioned in the past that he would have interest in owning a team, but in an interview with The Atlantic, it seems like he’s given it a little bit more thought about the Cavs current owner, Dan Gilbert, and if he’d be willing to sell the team.
“To be an owner of any team would be crazy,” James told The Athletic. “If this thing opened up and I’m in a position financially, and I’ve got the right team around me, obviously. But who’s to say Dan will (sell)? I’ve always kept it just player/owner at this point. I guess once I come down to that point, if the conversation needed to be had, I’ll have it. But I don’t have it right now.”
Every now and then it will hit me, “we did this.” Still unbelievable. Huge thank you and s/o to everyone who has helped make Survivor’s Remorse a reality and success – we’re four seasons deep!!! Big thank you to @starz for believing in @mavcarter and I and our @springhillent BEFORE we had success. #striveforgreatness?
“I know how much the team cost when he bought it,” James said. “And I know how much it’s worth now – over $1 billion if he wanted it.”
Gilbert bought the team for $375 million back in 2005. The irony is that if Gilbert were to sell the Cavaliers, the high asking price is directly related to LeBron.
He would basically be a victim of his own success.
Actor/Comedian Will Ferrell has a backup plan for James is owning a team doesn’t pan out.
