Yes, you read the title correctly, there is a new team and it is being headlined by former No. 1 overall pick Greg Oden.
And no, it isn’t overseas.
Oden is entering for a chance to play in The Basketball Tournament along with a team of mostly Ohio State alumni, named Scarlet & Gray – the colors of the Buckeyes.
2015 And 2016 TBT Champs, Overseas Elite
If you’ve never heard of The Basketball Tournament, their official site says:
“TBT is an annual, 5-on-5, single elimination basketball tournament. Anyone 18 or older can enter a team or play. In 2017, 64 teams will play for a winner-takes-all prize of $2 million.”
Here’s how last year’s winnings were broken down:

In order for Oden to make a return to primetime TV after injuries sidelined his NBA career and he spent last year playing China, one of two things needs to happen.
First, the Scarlet & Gray have to be one of the nine top teams in the midwest region with the most fan votes (You can vote here if you feel so inclined until June 1 at 12 pm ET).
The second way the Ohio State alumni can get in is by being selected as an “at-large” team to play in the TBT Jamboree to compete for a spot in the actual tournament.
